Royal Navy team to swim English Channel

20 June 2022
A team of Royal Navy officers are planning to swim the English Channel this week to raise funds for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity.

Lieutenant Commander Hugo Mitchell-Heggs, Commander Rich Cragg, Lt Cdr Callum Fraser and Captain Elton Sharkey will swim the 21 miles in one-hour relay shifts.

Funds raised will provide mental health and wellbeing support to serving RN personnel, veterans and their families.

“The conditions and swim time will be challenging but the team are motivated by the thought of helping this very special cause within the charity,” said Lt Cdr Mitchell-Heggs.

The water temperature is currently around 14C and the team will be wearing swimming trunks to comply with the Channel Swimming Association’s Limited Certification rules.
