Royal Navy to attend UK's largest apprenticeship event

The UK’s largest apprenticeship, skills and careers event kicks-off at Birmingham’s NEC on November 21 and the Royal Navy and Royal Marines will be there!
Dozens of top-flight organisations will attend, speaking with some of the thousands of young people expected to flock to the three-day event.
Representing the Senior Service will be a broad selection of personnel with several interesting and illuminating displays to showcase the breadth of learning and training opportunities on offer with the Royal Navy.
Commodore Andy Cree, Assistant Chief of Staff for Training in the Royal Navy, said: “The Naval Service offers apprenticeships and training across a broad range of skills and professions.
“There is an enormous number of opportunities to gain recognised qualifications and skills for life across our learning provision and within one of our 26 apprenticeships which include engineering, hospitality services, health and social care, and IT. The Royal Navy also develops accredited leadership and management skills and our people are at the very heart of a technologically advanced and world-class Royal Navy.”
The Royal Navy display, which can be found at the entrance to Hall 18, includes a Virtual Reality simulator replicating life onboard a submarine, a Royal Marine physical fitness challenge, a Royal Marines Band, a culinary demonstration and plenty of information on apprenticeships. Personnel will also be on-hand throughout to give expert advice to young people and parents alike.
There will also be a variety of “Spotlight” talks during the event, with Naval personnel giving presentations on their areas of expertise.

World Skills UK will also feature the UK National Finals of the WorldSkills UK Competitions, where participants compete at the very highest levels of their chosen skill. Last year’s winner in the Avionics category was Leading Airman Engineering Technician (LAET) Katherine Jennings from RNAS Culdrose. Five Naval personnel are entered in the competition this year, three from RNAS Yeovilton and two from HMS Sultan, and they will be hoping to replicate Katherine’s success.
