HMS Dalriada Cairngorms Expedition

Members of HMS Dalriada took part in the Braeriach Traverse last month. The team were led by expedition organiser SLt Hughes and covered a total distance of 22.5 miles in 15.5 hours over the 2 day exercise.

In total the team climbed Braeriach, Sgor an Lochain Uaine (The Angel’s Peak), Cairn Toul & The Devil’s Point peaking at 1296 metres atop Braeriach.

“At the beginning I was excited but also apprehensive since my previous maximum number of Munros bagged in a day was a mere 2”. Said AB Collingwood, one of the expedition team members.

The team made use of Rothiemurchus Lodge, exclusive accommodation for regulars and ex-regulars of the Armed Forces in addition to Reserves, MoD Civilians and Cadet Forces, for the weekends activities.

I found the expedition challenging but massively rewarding. I enjoyed learning new skills but more importantly, I enjoyed the company.

“I found the expedition challenging but massively rewarding. I enjoyed learning new skills but more importantly, I enjoyed the company.

“I find this to be one of the biggest factors when taking on new challenges; the group you are with and how you can motivate each other when things get tough” said AB Collingwood when looking back on the Cairngorms Expedition.
