Final salute at Raleigh for Chaplain of the Fleet

The Chaplain of the Fleet (COTF) has paid his final visit to HMS Raleigh ahead of his retirement from the Royal Navy.
The Venerable Ian Wheatley, who is the Senior Military Chaplain of the Royal Navy was the guest of honour at the latest passing-out-parade.
The Chaplain of the Fleet was invited to inspect the parade and present prizes to the top recruits.
Rev Wheatley previously served at HMS Raleigh as the Church of England Chaplain.
The energy and enthusiasm of the recruits and staff was inspiring and I wish them all the best in their careers ahead.
He said: ‘It was a real privilege to return to HMS Raleigh in the glorious sunshine, to attend the passing-out-parade and to meet some of the newest Naval recruits.
“The energy and enthusiasm of the recruits and staff was inspiring and I wish them all the best in their careers ahead.”
During his day at HMS Raleigh, the Chaplain of the Fleet was updated on the training provided at the base and toured the establishment to see for himself some of the activity taking place.
The Venerable Ian Wheatley joined the Royal Navy in 1981 at Britannia Royal Naval College originally as a Midshipman specialising as a Warfare Officer.
He was ordained in 1994 and returned to the Royal Navy as a chaplain in 1997.
Rev Wheatley has served as Chaplain of the Fleet since December 2014. He is due to leave his post at the end of this month.
