The event, now in its third year, saw a fine selection of treats including lemon drizzle or chocolate cake, fruit skewers, cupcakes with heart-shaped marshmallow toppings and even non-alcoholic Pina Colada cakes!
Stalls were set up in the Rubber Road, Marlborough Building (where some of the nursery’s children loudly encouraged passers-by to try their wares) and also in the Chaplaincy.
Collingwood Staff were asked for a contribution before selecting from the goodies all baked by the parents of the nursery children and Phase 2 students at the Base.

Chief Petty Officer Anthony Jefferies, manning the Rubber Road stall, explained that the success of this type of regular small-scale fundraising often encouraged support from larger donors.
Lieutenant Commander Chantal Hopper and Lieutenant Jenny Kedge in the Chaplaincy confirmed proceeds from the sale would be used to improve facilities at Woodentots Nursery which has provided on-base childcare to serving personnel at HMS Collingwood since 1996.
Improvements to the nursery building, including an IT suite, are scheduled to begin in May and it is hoped funds raised will provide softer playground surfaces and new facilities in the garden including a bug hotel.
Lt Kedge said, “It’s about giving service children a bit extra and improving an already good facility.”
The final total raised from the sweet-toothed Collingwood personnel was £314.
