824 NAS from sea to Santa and sleigh

21 December 2017
824 Naval Air Squadron and Santa made a flying visit to Polkerris Children’s Ward at the Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) to deliver Christmas presents to those spending time in hospital over the festive period.

Whilst embarked on RFA Argus earlier this year, the aircrew and engineers from Culdrose, carried out fund-raising challenges to pay for presents for the children.

As well as carrying out their training at sea, the 88 strong ‘Sea Flight’ managed to raise the funds during a beard growing competition.

Lt Cdr Roger Angliss of 824 NAS said: “It was really rewarding to be able to make this flying visit with Santa to the Children’s ward today.

“My children have been in hospital during the festive period, and every little helps during this difficult time.

“The children in the ward today were really excited that ‘Santa’ paid them a visit and they all promised to be good for Christmas.

“My team were proud to be able to deliver cheer to those in need over the festive period.”

Santa’s Sailors also gave presents to the ward staff to be enjoyed on Christmas Day too.
