The event organiser Petty Officer (PO) Bryn Phillips was delighted with this, the second year the Yeovil marathon has taken place and the money raised for recognised charities.
PO Phillips said; “It is worth all the hard work when you see the elation on the faces of the Athletes when they cross the finish line.
“It’s an added bonus that we can also raise money for two worthwhile military charities and this year we are proud to say we have raised £5000 for the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity and the Yeovilton Military Wives Choir giving them a cheque for £2500 each.”

280 runners lined up at the start this year and were set off on their way by record breaking Steve Edwards and Invictus Gold Medallist Sean Gaffney.
Jill Smith, Yeovilton Military Wives Choir Manager said as she was presented with a cheque for £2500; “This is absolutely fantastic; thanks to the Yeovil Marathon the Ladies of the choir can give more back to the local community.
“We love being part of the Yeovil Marathon on the day plus we get to entertain the spectators.”
Alongside the charity cheque presentations Yeovil Town RRC also presented the Commanding Officer of RNAS Yeovilton, Commodore Jon Pentreath OBE with a donation of £250 for the Air Stations Sports Fund.
Malcolm Maxted, Chairman of Yeovil Town RRC said; “It is with pleasure that as a Running Club we could give this donation to the PT department here at RNAS Yeovilton.
“The Running Club have been allowed to use the facilities here for a number of years now to conduct 3 of our events, the Yeovil Marathon being the most recent.
“We hope that with this donation the Air Station can upgrade some of its equipment so the whole station will have the benefit.”
The Yeovil Marathon will be held on the 11th June 2017 at RNAS Yeovilton and entries are already open.
