Personnel and their families were invited to attend the annual event, which is kindly funded by the Central Amenities Fund and takes place on Collingwood’s sports fields to mark Guy Fawkes Night.
After making a donation on arrival, attendees were able to enjoy refreshments provided by ESS and children could take advantage of the free funfair before the main event began.
The Bonfire was lit by Evelyn Jordan, daughter of Captain Andy Jordan Royal Navy, Commanding Officer of HMS Collingwood. This was followed by an impressive firework display which dazzled over the crowds as they watched in awe.
All donations generated from the event will go to Hosanna House and Children’s Pilgrimage Trust (HCPT), with a grand total of just over £1000 raised.
HCPT is a worldwide charity taking children and adults with medical and social needs on a pilgrimage to Lourdes. They not only provide the children and adults with a fantastic holiday, but also the parents and carers with some well-deserved respite.
HCPT Group 186 is the Portsmouth Royal Navy group, made up of individuals who are serving, retired or dependants of those affiliated with the Royal Navy.
Master at Arms Natalie Moore, who is the Group Leader for HCPT Group 186 (Royal Navy), said of the event, “Collingwood’s continued support has enabled us to collect a huge sum of money for which we are truly grateful.
"This will be spent taking the children on days out to places such as the Zoo and even Gavarnie in the Pyrenees Mountains during our 2017 Easter Pilgrimage to Lourdes.
"The sailors who were on hand to help us with donations, represented HMS Collingwood in the highest of standards of professionalism and their support allowed us to raise a fantastic amount and we can’t thank them enough.”
HCPT also has a Plymouth Navy group (150), Army (182) and RAF (187). If you would like any more information please contact them at [email protected].
