This is the first experience of the Royal Navy for the 1st year undergraduates and the aim of these weekends is to provide initial militarisation training and acquaint the Officer Cadets (OCs) with the training opportunities that Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC) provides.
During the course of the 2 days the OC’s from up to 4 different URNU’s are split into mixed unit divisions so they get a chance to work this undergraduates from other universities.
It is the first time the OC’s have worn Royal Navy uniform and they are inspected by their Commanding Officers each morning.
There are 15 URNU’s who recruit from a number of different universities every September
Their programme consists of the Royal Navy Military Swim Test, an element they must pass in order to go to sea with the P2000’s, Practical Leadership tasks, team building exercises and Parade training with the drill team from BRNC.
There are 15 URNU’s who recruit from a number of different universities every September, who train a range of undergraduates in leadership, seamanship and navigation without any obligation to join the Royal Navy.
Each unit has a strong team ethos which is developed through Adventurous Training, sport, time on board a P2000, one of the Royal Navy patrol vessels and general unit life.
