Nursery bakes with heart

17 February 2016
The Woodentots Parent Staff Association from HMS Collingwood’s nursery recently organised a Valentines themed bake sale to help fundraise for their up-coming garden project.

Situated in the onsite nursery itself, staff and children invited parents to make a £1 donation in return for a treat.

The popular event showcased the baking talents of the children who attend the nursery, offering cakes, fudge and delightfully packaged heart shaped cookies adorned with pink icing.

Chairwoman of Woodentots Parent Staff Association, Lieutenant Commander Caroline Thomas-Hoefsmit commented “We’ve been holding a few fundraisers to help raise money for projects around the nursery, one of which is to renovate the gardens that the children play in.

We’ve already held various bake sales and a raffle at Christmas, which went brilliantly.

“We’ve already held various bake sales and a raffle at Christmas, which went brilliantly.

“We are also holding events to encourage parents of the children who attend Woodentots to join in.

“We know that when partners are away serving it can be a very isolating time. We’re keen to get everyone involved and build a small community.”

For the nursery, which has provided childcare since 1996 to accommodate the needs of all Collingwood personnel, the Valentines themed sale has proved successful for the second year running.

In total £81 was raised on the day to contribute to the Nursery’s continuous fundraising efforts.
