The service was led by the HMS Dalriada’s Royal Navy Reserve Chaplain, Rev Jamie Milliken and featured many of the old favourite carols, including a solo performance of Once in Royal David’s City by Officer Cadet Collins accompanied by AB Glynn on the guitar.
The service finished with a rousing rendition of Jingle Bells prior to a delicious buffet including mince pies and mulled wine.
The highlight of the night for children large and small was a visit to Santa’s grotto, where all the younger children receiving a gift from Santa.
The night also featured HMS Dalriada’s annual prize giving, with a highly accomplished field in 2016.
The prize winners for 2016 were: AB Emma Noble, Exceptional Performance during Initial Naval Training; CPO Bernie Cresswell, Rupert Mozley Award for Overall Contribution to the Unit; LH Jim Coventry, The Reserves Merit Award; LS Steve Allan, HMS Dalriada Ships Company Award. The Commanding Officer, Commander Lesley Stephen, presented the prizes.
2016 was the inaugural year of the Rupert Mozley Award which was created in memory of HMS Dalriada’s long serving Support Manager, Major Rupert Mozley, Royal Engineers (retired), who sadly passed away in September.
Major Mozley was a driving force within the HMS Dalriada during the 20 years he was the Support Manager and in recognition of this the award will be presented to the member of the Ship’s Company who contributes the most to the Unit during the preceding year.
The carol service provided an opportunity to thank family and friends for their support to HMS Dalriada and individual reservists during the year, and for the Ship’s Company to enjoy a sociable evening together prior to the festive period.
