How it works

Studying a science-based A-Level or equivalent – including Health and Social Care, or Psychology? You could be eligible for a medical scholarship.

The Royal Navy offers an incredible opportunity for fully paid sponsorship through university. This could be as an Adult Nurse, Mental Health Nurse, Operating Department Practitioner, Biomedical Scientist or Radiographer.

There are officer positions available across the Medical profession, with the option to apply as a student or after you’re fully qualified. They cover a wide variety of specialist medical areas – from biomedical science to mental health nursing.

What you’ll get

  • 10 weeks Initial Naval Training at HMS Raleigh before starting university on a full-time salary 
  • All your university fees paid for by us 
  • Subsidised accommodation 
  • Some extra money for food and living expenses. 
  • Live on a university campus with other tri-service military healthcare students. This will give you great support whilst you’re studying  
  • Enjoy the social side of university too. 
  • Opportunity to maintain your fitness and do military training and exercises. Plus wider military support throughout your training. 

Your options

Adult Nurses and Mental Health Nurses study at Birmingham City University. If you already have your A-Level (or equivalent) results, you’ll start Initial Naval Training in May, followed by BCU in Sept. If you’re still finishing your exams, you can join Initial Naval Training in September, then BCU the following January.
